In the early days of Gevers Aircraft the Gevers brothers needed an inexpensive way to examine the flow patterns around their new aircraft designs. So they built a small wind tunnel in their garage for around $500. This wind tunnel had a test section of 19 inches by 27 inches with 120 mph airflow. |

As they made progress in their aircraft design they needed a larger wind tunnel with a force measurement system. They knew from the start that renting time in someone else's tunnel was not only inconvenient but also forbiddingly expensive. So they set off to build their second tunnel, a 5 x 7 feet test section with 200 mph airflow and a six-component scales with a data acquisition system. The total cost of building this tunnel was about the same as a full day of renting an existing one. |

The web pages associated with these two wind tunnels describe them in colorful detail and even give advice on building your own. Information on renting these tunnels is also available if you have something to test whether it is aircraft, automotive, sports, RC models, building related, or whatever the case may be. |
